Piglet and Papa written by Margaret Wild and illustrated by Stephen Michael King is another library discovery, and is a good companion to Guess How Much I Love You.
Piglet plays a little too boisterously with her Papa one day, and chews his tail. Hard! She isn't sure whether she's made him really cross, but when she asks him if he loves her he doesn't hear, and she tiptoes away, afraid she has upset him.
Piglet then walks about the farm, meeting other animals on her way. She asks each of them if they love her, and all say that although they do there is someone who loves her ten/a hundred/ a thousand...times more. But they don't say who.
Of course at the end she goes back to the sty, where papa is waiting for her, and where she gets the reassurance she really wanted all along.
Scarlett really likes to have this book read to her, and she very quickly learned to recite bits of it. I think we've discovered it at a time when she is really gaining independence but still running back for cuddles and reassurance regularly, which ties in nicely with the strength of parental love expressed in the book. It's ideal for any child who worries that they've lost a parent's love after they've been told off.
The illustrations are pretty, and writing this post I've discovered the illustrator's website and become enamoured of him!
Also available are 'Piglet and Mama' and coming later this year, 'Piglet and Granny'.

I don't know these books, but they sound really cute (I'm a sucker for piggie stories!). I do love that the parent pig is a father too (sometimes children's books seem so mother focused).
good point, it is great to have a father featured...might have to go looking for others with Dads in the centre of the story.
this series sounds lovely, though we have to be careful with father books, sadly.
i love farm animal books!
